Bread and Roses Essence Story

Essence Story by Barbara Berry:

Children’s giggles evolved into rhythmic clapping as Johnny transitioned from an opening klutzy juggling act to show his amazing skill.

The mix of juggling and magic create a fantastic show. Kids and adults alike were transfixed by his legerdemain. Kids sat on the edge of their chairs signaling that they wanted to be part of the show and Johnny artfully managed to include them all. He definitely had the audience from his first abracadabra.

At the end of the show, I chatted with the mother of a young boy and girl. She told me how excited the kids had been all day in anticipation of the show; and how grateful she was that the kids had something to look forward to.

Thanks so much Barbara!

Bread and Roses Essence Story

Essence Story by Arthur Javier:

This day reminded me of the times when I was in Kindergarten where teachers would entertain us before class started and sometimes entertainers would come to class and mesmerize us beyond belief with their tricks. We would always wonder how the entertainer was able to perform what appeared to be magic.

Johnny is a master at entertaining children. He would ask for volunteers, have them participate and the kids would light up and get excited. This set the tone for the afternoon as Johnny performed his magic wizardry. After each trick or magic, the kids and the teachers would look at each other almost in shock and say, “Did you see that?” This happened over and over again. Johnny’s last number was actually a dangerous one as he told the kids, “Do not try this at home, OKAY???”

He took out a cylinder and a piece of short wooden board about 2 feet long that he placed on top of a plastic cylinder on the floor. He took out 3 ‘machetes’, something used to cut through the jungle foliage, and he balanced himself on the board that was on top of the cylinder. While he was balanced, you could see the audience on the edge of their seats, eyes focused on Johnny as he juggled the three machetes. He would wobble from side to side of the board and this generated gasps among the audience. He finally stepped out of the board and the audience clapped loudly, still in disbelief how he did it. Johnny was their thrill of the afternoon.
